AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly forcing a woman with a hearing impairment into prostitution, according to Austin police.
The victim said she and the suspect, 25-year-old Aaron Bruins, started a dating relationship back in July when they met in Houston.
She told officers that after about a month of dating, Bruins took her to a street in Houston where he told her to sell sex for money.
The victim alleges Bruins taught her how to sell sex, and what to say and how to act. She said that Bruins made her sell sex nearly every day.
She told officers she was taken to Dallas to sell sex, and most recently Austin.
The victim said, for the past several months, Bruins would strangle and slap her when he got mad. She claims that Bruins threatened to hurt her family if she left him.
According to an arrest affidavit, officers were called on Monday to the La Quinta Inn at 1603 E. Oltorf St., next to Interstate 35.
The officers say when they made contact with the victim and Bruins, the victim communicated to the officers through texting on her phone. She told them she needed to be separated from Bruins, and she was being forced into prostitution and did not know how to get away.
After the victim gave the officers permission to search her phone, they found messages between the victim and Bruins, where he was directing her how to solicit prostitution.
Bruins was arrested for compelling prostitution. His bail is set at $75,000.
