Man arrested, accused of setting fire to four gas stations

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Austin Police officers and Austin firefighters were kept busy Saturday morning responding to calls about fires intentionally set to trash cans and damage made to fuel pumps at four gas stations in southeast Austin.

APD officers got the first call around 7 a.m. about a fire set to a trash can at a Chevron gas station located at 2433 S. Pleasant Valley Road.

Officers were able to put out the fire but shortly after were notified of another fire at a Chevron gas station at 3404 South U.S. Highway 183.

Later, they were called to two more gas stations located at 6310 East Ben White Blvd. and 5303 Nuckols Crossing for trash cans on fire and damage to fuel pumps.

All of the gas stations are within 10 minutes of each other.

APD says the suspect attempted to damage the pumps with a lighter, but officers can't confirm yet if they were set on fire. APD says there is no structural damage to any of the gas stations.

Police have a suspect in custody and charges are pending as the investigation continues.
