AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man is accused of breaking into multiple Amy’s Ice Cream stores and tried to steal money from the safes inside.

A manager arrived at the store on South Lamar Boulevard on July 4 to find someone had gotten inside through the wall to the bathroom, according to an affidavit. Video surveillance showed the suspect, later identified as 55-year-old Gerard John Ricasolo, getting into the building around 5 a.m. and trying to get into the safe. He wasn’t able to open it.

Police compared it to similar cases and identified Ricasolo as a suspect, then compared a prior booking photo with the video. Besides having similar facial features, “the suspect depicted in the video wore a white long sleeved button down shirt and prescription type glasses consistent with Ricasolo’s clothing worn in previous burglaries,” an affidavit said.

Ricasolo was arrested July 11 for involvement in a different Amy’s Ice Cream burglary from March 4. When questioned, he told police “I am not going to incriminate myself,” the affidavit said.

Ricasolo faces burglary of a building charges and a parole violation and is in custody in the Travis County Jail. According to the affidavit, he was released from prison in August 2017 and had previously been arrested for a series of burglaries in 2012.
