Inert grenade forces evacuation at south Austin Goodwill

A Goodwill store in south Austin had to be evacuated for a short period of time after employees discovered an inert grenade.

Austin police say they were called just after noon to the store located at 2800 South Lamar Boulevard.

The store was evacuated as a precaution until the all-clear was given on the grenade.

Last month, a military ordnance that was donated to the Goodwill store at 9801 Brodie Ln. detonated while an employee was handling it. While no one was badly injured, the timing of the detonation was inopportune since authorities were in the middle of the package bomb investigation.

If you come across an old military ordnance or military memento, you’re asked to call 911 so they can dispose of it properly.
