AUSTIN (KXAN) — Interstate 35 near William Cannon Drive will have a series of closures this week as crews work to add beams for the new U-turn bridge.
I-35 will close southbound on Monday and Tuesday and will close northbound Wednesday and Thursday from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. The William Cannon Drive bridge will also close to traffic every night at 8 p.m.
During the closures, drivers should take an alternate route. Those who want to cross I-35 at William Cannon Drive should instead use Slaughter Lane or Stassney Lane.
All lanes will be open during the day.
This construction is part of the Stassney Lane to William Cannon Drive project, which costs $79 million. Work to improve ramps, reconstruct bridges, add U-turn lanes and improve bicycle and pedestrian experiences are expected to be completed in winter 2019/2020.
