Hundreds show their love for the bats at Austin Bat Fest

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Hundreds of Austinites gathered to show their love for the city’s winged mascots during the 2018 Bat Fest.

On the Congress street bridge, 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats flew out at dusk.

The event sported a costume contest, food trucks, arts and craft vendors and tons of live music.

“I’m just here to have a good time, and support the bats, they get a bad rap and its nice to see that everyone is supporting them too,” said Angela Gonzalez, a Bat Fest patron.
