Hole opens up on US 183 service road in southeast Austin

Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A hole opened up on the shoulder of northbound US 183 service road in southeast Austin Friday morning, prompting the right-hand lane to close.

The hole near Patton Avenue was caused by erosion around an underground utility line, according to the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority. Lane closures are likely to persist into Saturday and possibly Sunday as well.

Crews arrived Friday morning to fill the hole with cement to prevent the road from being damaged by a collapse. Workers will also test the area nearby to make sure there are no other issues.
