AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas Special Olympics athletes have been training to get in tip-top shape for the competition in July, but before they go, it’s time to celebrate.
Fans are invited to come out for a send-off celebration recognizing the 150 men and women who will head to Seattle for the competition July 1-6.
The party is from 7 to 9 p.m. at Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium at 405 E. 23rd St. on Thursday, June 28. There will be sports and activities on the field and then a pep rally. UT cheerleaders, mascots, pep squad and student-athletes will also be there to cheer on the Special Olympics competitors.
People can register for the event online.
The athletes will then head to Washington, where almost 3,500 people will compete in team and individual sports, from basketball and soccer to bocce, bowling and stand-up paddleboarding.
