Help families beat the heat with our Summer Fan Drive!

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- As temperatures continue to climb, it is a reminder that many Austinites don't have a way to beat the heat.

KXAN is proud to partner once again with Family Eldercare for the 28th annual Summer Fan Drive.  With your help, our mission is to bring relief from the heat to Central Texans who cannot afford or do not have air conditioning.

In June, KXAN and Family Eldercare’s Fan From Fans Friday was a complete success thanks to KXAN viewers! You helped raise $155,000 and nearly 700 fans were donated.

This could not be possible without people like you. But it’s not over yet! KXAN and Family Eldercare’s Summer Fan Drive goes on all summer.  More fans and funds are needed to ensure all those with special needs are taken care of and stay cool in these rising temperatures.

With 100-degree heat and no air-conditioning, one fan can lower body temperatures up to 8-9 degrees, which can save a life. In 2017 alone, the Summer Fan Drive distributed 6,740 fans to more than 3,200 households, impacting a total of 9,002 people, including 3,905 Central Texas children.

A simple idea to hand out a few fans with the mission to make the heat safer for seniors back in 1990 has transformed thousands of lives with thousands of fans annually. With the help of our community, we will continue to do so in the future!

The Fan Drive lasts until Aug. 31.
