Hays CISD employee killed in car crash

HAYS, Texas (KXAN) — Former Hays County deputy and Hays CISD employee Phillip Taylor was killed in a car crash Thursday evening on Farm to Market Road 2770, just south of Buda.

Taylor served for two decades with the Hays County Sheriff’s office, earning the rank of Sergeant. He began with the department as a corrections officer in 2000. From 2006 through 2010 he worked as a detective.

During his time with the department, Taylor led the School Resource Officer program for school districts within Hays County.  He managed community outreach programs, crime prevention and public information teams, the transport unit and the government center security division.

Last September, Taylor was appointed the first ever security and safety director for Hays CISD. Taylor was also serving as Mayor of Mountain City, a small town north of Kyle.

“I’m saddened to learn of the passing of a good friend and outstanding public servant today,” said Kyle Texas Mayor Travis Mitchell. “Our hearts and prayers go out to Phillip’s family, friends and those he worked so diligently to serve and protect.”
