AUSTIN (KXAN) — A new H-E-B store could be coming to southwest Austin off U.S. Highway 290 and possibly replacing a nearby store, according to a preliminary site plan filed with the city at the beginning of the month.

The new store would be at 7901 West U.S. Highway 290. It would replace an existing store less than two miles away — at 7010 State Highway 71 — if construction near the intersection of SH 71 and US 290 ends up affecting the older store, H-E-B spokesperson Leslie Sweet told the Austin Business Journal.

A Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson said that project isn’t expected to physically affect the SH 71 store. Plans for the road changes, meant to address congestion, would add three new main lanes to US 290 plus two or three lanes of frontage road in each direction. One proposal would add an  overpass and flyovers between the two highways, which could make it more difficult for drivers to access H-E-B.
