AUSTIN (KXAN) — A garbage truck’s load caught fire Thursday morning in Austin, as it was driving near the remains of an apartment complex that burned Tuesday.

The fire happened in the area of 4107 Victory Drive, less than 0.1 miles from Mission James Place apartments at 4009 Victory Drive. The driver pulled over into a nearby Target parking lot and dumped the load, and the Austin Fire Department put it out, according to Division Chief Palmer Buck.

“It happened to be one block away from where the apartment fire was, but we don’t know what caused it,” Buck said. He says there’s a chance it was caused from trash related to the burned apartments, but he’s “pretty confident” it wasn’t from that.

No one was hurt and Central Texas Refuse is working to clean up the mess.
