Fugitive taken into custody after southeast Austin SWAT standoff

AUSTIN (KXAN) — SWAT officers have taken a fugitive into custody following a standoff that began Thursday morning in a southeast Austin apartment complex.

At 11 a.m., the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force was at Stassney Woods Apartments at 1800 E. Stassney Ln. — located just east of Interstate 35 — serving a warrant for 27-year-old Luis Ernesto Aguilera-Pantoja.

Police blocked off the street in front of the complex after learning the suspect had rifles, shotguns and handguns inside his apartment.

The suspect was wanted on warrants out of Hays County for charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon involving two victims in separate cases, along with a deadly conduct charge for allegedly discharging a gun, Austin Police Department Sr. Officer Bino Cadenas said.

Police say when SWAT officers entered his apartment at 2:15 p.m. they found he was barricaded inside his bedroom. When officers entered his bedroom, Cadenas says they were able to arrest the suspect without him or the officers getting injured.

Hays County Jail records show he has been booked into the jail multiple times since 2015, most recently in May 2017 on charges of reckless driving and failure to identify.
