AUSTIN (KXAN) — Beginning in the 2019-2020 school year, all Texas marching band and dance team members will be required to get a physical.
Starting next week, the Austin Independent School District will set up two medical clinics in partnership with physicians from the Travis County Medical Society to offer free physicals to all students in sports, marching band or dance team.
Registration for the clinics is now closed. KXAN spoke with Denise Vanlandingham the AISD Area Athletic Coordinator ahead of the event, she says the district is expecting to help a thousand students with free physicals over the next two weeks.
A representative with the Travis County Medical Society said it has partnered with AISD for 20 years to offer the free service and it is still looking for physicians to volunteer their time.
Anyone interested in volunteering can do so by contacting the group on its website here.
