Free adoptions at Austin Animal Center as it runs out of space

Austin Animal Center breaks record for number of lives saved_418304

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Animal Center is running out of space after it received numerous pets this week, so it’s waiving adoption fees and reclaim fees for lost animals. Adoptions normally cost $75, and reclaim fees can be between $45 and $115 depending on whether the animal is spayed or neutered or if it’s been to the center before.

In a statement, it said the shelter at 7201 Levander Loop is “far beyond capacity,” noting the situation is especially cramped for dogs.

“Some dogs are being held in pop up crates, in offices and in meeting rooms just to accommodate the extra paws,” it wrote in a statement. The animals have been spayed or neutered and have all their shots.

Anyone wanting to adopt should bring a photo ID and will have to complete a visitor profile sheet.

It’s also requesting anyone able to foster animals to sign up as well. The center is open every day including Memorial Day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is also offering free adoptions for Memorial Day Weekend.
