DEL VALLE, Texas (KXAN) — The Austin Fire Department has brought a 6 acre grass fire under control in Del Valle.

It started around 12:25 p.m. near Ross Road and Pearce Lane. Firefighters from AFD and Travis County Fire Rescue contained a section that was approaching about 20 homes before it moved toward the roadway, but by about 1:27 p.m. had it under control.

Officials shared a photo of a cigarette butt on Twitter and said they found “multiple improperly discarded smoking materials” nearby, which they believe may have started the fire.

Travis County Commissioners Court will initiate a burn ban from Tuesday, Dec. 26 to Wednesday, Jan. 31.
