Firefighters battle deadly blaze at Greenlawn Landscaping construction trailer, sources say owner is in critical condition

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Firefighters were sent to central Austin Saturday morning to fight a deadly fire at a construction trailer.

According to the Austin Fire Info Twitter account, the fire happened at 4901 Airport Boulevard. One person was found dead inside the trailer. The trailer is located on the property of Greenlawn Landscaping.

A second victim was taken by Austin-Travis County EMS to the hospital with serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.

Christin Latouf lives within feet of the deadly fire. He say he woke up to firefighter banging on his door early Saturday morning.

“The inside of my house was almost entirely orange,” said Latouf. “When I put my hand up to the window it was pretty hot to the touch.”

Christin lives directly behind the construction trailer. The only thing standing in between his home and the trailer is maybe 10 feet of tall overgrown bamboo.

“It was so close that it almost looked like my building was on fire,” said Latouf.

Sources tell KXAN’s Kaitlyn Karmout that the owner of Greenlawn Landscaping is at the hospital and in critical condition.

The owner of the nearby taco place tells KXAN that one of his employees witnessed someone running outside and on fire at the time of the fire.

APD’s homicide and medical examiners are investigating to determine the cause of death and what led up to the fire.
