Driver who died in northwest Austin crash identified

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A driver who was hit and killed in a collision in northwest Austin last week has been identified Monday.

Austin police say Michael Cannatti, 70, died after an Isuzu truck heading north on Balcones Woods Drive T-boned his Cadillac XTS on the driver’s side as Cannatti drove through the intersection with Jollyville Road. The Izusu also hit a gray Mazda sedan.

Police say the driver of the Isuzu “failed to control speed” ahead of the collision at 10:22 a.m. on April 17. APD did not specify whether that driver had been cited.

This is Austin’s 19th fatal traffic crash of 2019, and a total of 20 people have died. In comparison, at this time last year there were also 19 fatal crashes and 20 deaths.
