Driver killed after hitting bus stop on South Congress


Austin police say a man is dead after driving his car into a south Austin bus stop Monday morning. The crash happened at the intersection of South Congress Avenue and William Cannon Drive at 1:09 a.m.

Paramedics with Austin-Travis County EMS pronounced the man in his 20s dead at the scene. Another man in his 30s was taken to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center with potentially serious injuries.

Austin police tell KXAN they believe the man in his 30s was the passenger. They say the car was heading north on South Congress Avenue when it hit the bus stop. No one else was hurt.

Both lanes of South Congress Avenue reopened around 5:49 a.m.
