A driver who police say was involved in a deadly hit-and-run involving a man in a wheelchair along the frontage road of Interstate 35 in north Austin has been arrested.
Austin police say on May 7, Rafael Padilla, 28, was driving southbound on the frontage road when he struck Robert Copeland, 60, who was in a wheelchair, just after 2 a.m. Police say Copeland was in the far right lane of the frontage road near US 183 when he was hit.
The driver fled the scene but was arrested on May 12. Copeland died at the scene.
Padilla has bonded out of jail and is charged with failure to stop and render aid.
