Draylen Mason inducted into the Southwest Key Walk of Heroes

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Friends and family of one of the Austin bombing victims gathered Saturday in east Austin as he was inducted into the Southwest Key Walk of Heroes. Southwest Key founded East Austin College Prep where Draylen Mason was a senior before he was killed on March 12.

The Walk of Heroes lies outside the Southwest Key headquarters on Jain Lane. The Walk contains mosaic portraits of people who made a difference in the east Austin community. Draylen’s portrait will lay beside images of Martin Luther King, Jr., Cesar Chavez, Susana Almanza, Pedro Garza, Gus Garcia and Bertha Williams.

Austin Police Chief Brian Manley spoke at the event and tweeted that Draylen will be remembered forever.

“Not only will he be forever remembered in our hearts and minds, he will now be remembered and honored by all who follow him,” Manley tweeted.
