Dog shot after knocking down APD officer responding to disturbance

AUSTIN (KXAN) — An Austin police officer shot a dog Thursday morning while responding to a call of a disturbance in southeast Austin.

Officers were called to a disturbance at the 2200 block of Town Lake Circle at 7:43 a.m. An APD public information officer said that an aggressive dog at the scene knocked down one of the officers, who then shot the dog.

The dog was taken to a veterinary clinic to be treated and appears to be recovering according to APD. It has been decided that the officer will not be put on administrative leave.
