Dog rescued from fourplex fire in north Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Firefighters put out a fourplex home on fire in north Austin, Monday afternoon.

The Austin Fire Department responded to the fire at 1718 Colony Creek Dr., which is just south of Rundberg Lane, around 4:20 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they reported heavy fire was coming from the second story of the home.

AFD says there were no injuries and a dog named Ginger was rescued from an apartment and is doing fine.

Twenty-one people from four families were displaced by the fire, which caused heavy damage to one of the units. The Red Cross is helping the tenants.

The department said the fire was caused by an accidental short in a window A/C unit. Damage is estimated at $70,000 to the structure and $25,000 to the building’s contents.
