AUSTIN (KXAN) — Dell Valle ISD is celebrating the grand opening of the Newton Collins campus, its newest elementary school.
The campus is named after Newton Issac Collins Sr. a freed slave who purchased land in the area more than a century ago. It is a state of the art campus centered around its library.
The school was designed to have a neighborhood feel, where each grade could be its own section.
“The design of it is in three wings, and each wing has this incredible community area with seating and the smart boards so that teachers can pull kids out and do small groups and activities,” said Ann Heuberger, Vice President of Del Valle Board of Trustees.
The campus will be able to hold 1,000 students.
