Airport Blvd Fire 3

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Fire Department is working to find out what caused a shopping center fire in east central Austin on Wednesday.

The fire department first tweeted about smoke billowing out of the shopping center at 4631 Airport Blvd just after 6 p.m. The strip mall is located just before 48th Street near I-35 south.

About 30 minutes later, officials said the fire was out but they were still working to ventilate multiple units of the strip mall.

Businesses in the shopping center include Austin Family Dentistry, 9Round Kickbox Fitness and Sweet Ritual.

The fire did damage to the dentist office and Austin Fire officials said five other businesses in the strip mall had light smoke damage.
