AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Circuit of the Americas launched the F1 Future Stars program Wednesday, offering 20 kids the chance to take part in the pre-race ceremony at the Formula 1 Grand Prix this October.
Those selected, ages 7 to 10, will stand alongside the 20 best F1 drivers in the world for the national anthem before the seventh successive F1 race takes place on Sunday, Oct. 21.
Ten of the 20 participants will be selected by COTA going off of their performance at their karting facility, including top pro skills score, most laps recorded and fastest lap recorded between now and Sept. 3.
The remaining 10 spots will be filled through COTA’s partners with local nonprofits, including Dell Children’s Medical Center, Operation Supply Drop (supporting military families) and the Boys and Girls Club of Austin.
The Pirelli 2018 U.S. Grand Prix is set for Oct. 19 through 21. For details on the program, visit CircuitoftheAmericas.com.
