AUSTIN (KXAN) — One person is dead after a police chase through two central Texas counties early Thursday morning.

The chase started in Williamson County around 1:30 a.m. and ended in a crash at the corner of Bethune and St. Johns avenues in north Austin, according to the Austin Police Department.

Police have not said how the chase started or how the person died. Investigators are classifying it as an “in-custody death” as they do whenever police are involved, APD Officer Jeremy Bohannon said. That means the person who died was the suspected driver.

Bohannon expects roads to be closed in the area of the crash throughout the morning commute and urged drivers to avoid the area as they piece together what happened.

Both APD and the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
