AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Statesman Capitol 10K will not be rescheduled after weekend storms scratched the event for the first time in its 42-year history.
“Due to the size and scale of our once-a-year event and the level of coordination and advanced permitting required with the City of Austin, TxDOT and the State of Texas, the race cannot be rescheduled,” race organizers sent in an email to registrants Tuesday.
The race, which was scheduled for Sunday, April 7, was canceled after severe weather and lightning swept through Central Texas throughout most of the day.
Organizers reiterated that registration fees will not be refunded to participants which was stated during race registration. Organizers said they are honoring their “commitment of making the full financial donation to our 2019 race beneficiary, the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians.”
Race medals will be donated to presenting sponsor, Baylor, Scott & White Health. The next race is scheduled for April 5, 2020.
