AUSTIN (KXAN) — Capital Metro approved a game plan for Project Connect Vision Monday, a long-range plan that aims to improve transportation into and out of central Austin.
The plan was voted on by Cap Metro’s board of directors, and the approved map details a vision for improved transit options integrated with the local bus service.
“I am very grateful to our board for seeing this through, to our partners throughout the region for their leadership and to the community for their feedback that guided our process,” said Capital Metro President & CEO Randy Clarke in a recent press release. “The Project Connect vision is essential to maintaining the high quality of life we have here in Central Texas.”
The Project Connect map includes a plan for a new commuter rail (Green Line) to create a transit option between Austin and Manor.
A part of the plan could see transit routes receiving services similar to Cap Matro’s current MetroRapid bus lines, where buses are given priority at traffic lights, and along parts of their routes.
The approved plan is part of a two-year planning process. The next phase of the plan will include input from the community.
