AUSTIN (KXAN) — Legendary country singer George Strait announced his next studio album Friday, and much to the delight of Austinites, the album cover spotlights an Austin landmark, the Broken Spoke.
The new album “Honk Tonk Time Machine” will be 30th career studio album by Strait. The local Austin establishment emblazoned on the album’s cover is the country dance hall the Broken Spoke.
The Broken Spoke’s age is a testament to its popularity, as it still stands strong amidst increasing urban development surrounding it. The Broken Spoke will be celebrating its 55th anniversary this fall.
In addition to showcasing the Broken Spoke on the album’s cover, one of the tracks written by Strait called “Sing One with Willie” features a duet with famous Texan and Austinite, Willie Nelson.
“It’s been about two years since I’ve released a record. It was great writing with Bubba and Dean again and creating such a beautiful song with Bubba and Jeff Hyde. Also, it was a very special thing for me to be able to write and sing one with the legend, Willie Nelson,” wrote Strait in a recent press release.
The album, “Honky Tonk Time Machine, debuts March 29.
