AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Friday, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area will host its grand opening of the new Home Club on the Sheth Family Campus in East Austin.

The new 10-acre club is located off of US 183 on Ed Bluestein Boulevard and will serve up to 1000 kids and teens every day. 

“It really is important that we’re making sure that every child has that equitable access,” Misti Potter, CEO of the Austin area organization said.

The $14 million Home Club will feature a recording studio in the art department, a dance class and even robotics and coding lessons. Organizers said the goal is to pick up where the classroom leaves off.

“You have youth that come in who a lot of them have a lot of challenges that they’ve had to overcome and they are able to access the things they wouldn’t have otherwise,” Potter said.

Things like healthy snacks or sports equipment and even driving lessons for teens will be offered. Potter said they’re working to ensure all of these things are available at the community’s fingertips. 

“We want people to walk in and ‘Welcome home,'” she said.

The Home Club will also host summer camps and community events including activities for senior citizens.

This club will be home to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area administrative offices and serve the children — a first in the organization’s 52-year history in the city. 

Currently, the organization is serving 12,700 children annually ages 6 to 18 at 35 locations in Travis and Bastrop Counties, including the Home Club on the Sheth Family Campus.
