Bomb threat led to evacuation of Leander ISD elementary school

Austin

Leander ISD’s Rutledge Elementary School was evacuated Wednesday afternoon following a bomb threat made at 2:25 p.m.

According to Leander ISD’s website, all students and staff are safe and a bomb-sniffing dog was searching the campus. At 4:25 p.m., the all-clear was given.

Because the evacuation happened 10 minutes before dismissal, Leander ISD’s spokesperson says students were allowed to go home with their parents or on school buses.

An original alert sent to parents asked them not to call 911 because law enforcement was already contacted.

Austin police officers were called to the elementary school, located at 11501 Staked Plains Dr. in northwest Austin, at 2:25 p.m. Wednesday.

School officials say classes will resume as normal on Thursday.
