Homicide detectives on scene after body found in downtown creek

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Homicide detectives with the Austin Police Department are investigating after a man's body was found floating in Shoal Creek in downtown Austin.

Just after 8:30 a.m. Friday, a caller reported to authorities that they saw "what appeared to be a male floating in the creek," according to Austin Police Officer Destiny Silva. The body was found near 800 W Sixth Street but Silva did not reveal a more exact location of where the body was found.

"Homicide detectives are on scene. They are investigating. Right now they don't believe it's suspicious but as the investigation progresses, this may change," Silva said in a press conference mid-morning on Friday.
