Body found in Lake Austin believed to be missing ACL-goer

Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was found in Lake Austin just southwest of the Loop 360 bridge after a body was reported in the water.

The Austin Fire Department tweeted around 1:20 p.m. Monday that an obviously deceased person was found.

Austin-Travis County EMS was called to the 3600 block of Rivercrest Drive at 12:59 p.m. and described the victim as a man in his 20s. He has not been identified.

Early Saturday, a 25-year-old man visiting Austin from Minneapolis to attend Austin City Limits music festival went missing at a waterfront vacation rental home less than 2,000 feet away from Monday’s incident.

The Travis County Sheriff’s Office believes, based on where the body was found, the victim is the missing man.

Friends of Christopher “Chris” Jay White last saw him between 5:30 and 6 a.m.

White’s friends said he left his keys, wallet and shoes inside the home, and that’s the last they heard of him.

“He mentioned that he was heading down towards the dock. They also indicated he was intoxicated at the time. They left the location, came back later in the day and this individual Christopher White was not there that afternoon,” said TCSO spokeswoman Kristen Dark.

KXAN is still waiting to hear from the county medical examiner for the official identification and if there’s a determination of foul play involved.
