Body found in creek bed along SH 71 near Austin airport

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Authorities are investigating a man’s body that was found along State Highway 71 across the highway from the Austin airport Tuesday afternoon.

Austin police say it received a call from a passerby around 3 p.m. regarding a body discovered in a creek bed along westbound SH 71 near Terry Lane.

While the man’s death was initially being investigated as suspicious, Austin police said Wednesday they do not believe there is a criminal element to the death.

Investigators are looking through missing person databases for the deceased, described as a white man in his 30s.

The cause of death is pending, but APD said there was no obvious trauma to the body.

“There are trails down there, so you know somebody’s been walking back there,” Sr. Patrol Officer Demitri Hobbs said during a press briefing Tuesday.
