Blue Santa charity gets police, fire chiefs racing for presents

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police Chief Brian Manley and Fire Chief Joel Baker teamed up today, racing the clock to fill up their cart at Costco for Operation Blue Santa.

The chiefs had 2 minutes or less to snag up to $10,000 worth of electronics and toys that will be used to raise money for the organization.

Going for TVs and gaming consoles was one strategy, and both say.. they’ve learned a very important lesson for anyone who’s going to do a shopping spree.

“I learned very early on that the shoes that I wear regularly are not appropriate. So I always make sure I’ll switch into my running shoes,” said APD Chief Manley

“Next year I’ll have my tennis shoes, I’ll be more prepared,” said AFD Chief Baker

Today’s shopping spree was sponsored by “Retail Me Not.”

Blue Santa now needs drivers to help deliver thousands of packages to families on Saturday. Click here for the details.
