Blown transformer in southwest Austin causes small brush fire

Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — More than 2,000 Austin Energy customers in southwest Austin were without power for a short period of time Tuesday evening due to a blown transformer.

The Austin Fire Department says the transformer blew shortly after 9 p.m. in the 4300 block of Bremner Drive, causing a small brush fire. Firefighters were able to put out the fire within 15 minutes and keep it contained to the greenbelt behind a neighborhood.

According to Austin Energy’s outage map, customers living along South MoPac and West Slaughter Lane experienced the outage but everything was repaired before 10 p.m.
