AUSTIN (KXAN) — An Austin area lawmaker wants to honor World War II veteran Richard Overton by designating part of Airport Boulevard as the Richard Overton Memorial Highway. Markers with the new name would be added but the name of the road itself would not change.

Rep. Sheryl Cole (D-Austin) filed House Bill 1821 Thursday.

Cole wants the portion of Airport Boulevard between Levander Loop and Parkwood Road to receive the label. That covers the entire portion of the road between Interstate 35 and U.S. Highway 183.

Overton, 112, died on December 27. At the time, he was the oldest WWII veteran alive, and the oldest living man.
