AUSTIN (KXAN) — Former Congressman Beto O’Rourke will be kicking off his campaign for the 2020 Presidential race with a rally in Austin Saturday, March 30.
Beto announced his campaign, “Beto for America,” in a tweeted video Wednesday March 13.
“Amy and I are happy to share with you that I am running to serve you as the next President of the United States of America,” he said. “This is a defining moment of truth for this country and for every single one of us.”
The rally will be held at Ninth Street and Congress Avenue, just two blocks from the State Capitol and is the last of three rallies being held that day. Beto will begin his one day Texas tour in his home city of El Paso at 10 a.m., followed by a rally in Houston at 5 p.m., finally ending in Austin at 9 p.m.
O’Rourke lost his Senate bid by only 2.6 points to Ted Cruz back in November, establishing his popularity in a historically red state, according to analysts. Proving that he could make Texas a competitive option in the 2020 race could potentially give O’Rourke a way to stand out in a crowded Democratic Primary.
