AUSTIN (KXAN) — In an exclusive statement to the Dallas Morning News, Beto O’Rourke confirmed that he will not run for U.S. Senate in 2020, a move close sources say will make room for his presidential run.

“Amy and I have made a decision about how we can best serve our country,” said O’Rourke. “We are excited to share it with everyone soon.”

Several people close to the former congressman from El Paso have said they expect O’Rourke will announce his presidential bid within weeks.

O’Rourke would enter the Democratic race alongside several candidates, including Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar, Cory Booker and Kirsten Gillibrand.
