AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin’s Republic Square is reopening this weekend, marking the city’s 179th “birthday.”
The all-day celebration was hosted by the Downtown Austin Alliance, and party goers were treated to live music and a variety of food trucks.
Mayor Pro Tem Kathie Tovo attended the festivities to declare it “Austin’s Birthday Bash Day.”
The Austin Parks Foundation designed and oversaw the construction of the redevelopment, along with the fundraising for the needed $5.9 million. A $1 million endowment for the park was also established.
