AUSTIN (KXAN) — The city of Austin hosted a Juneteenth celebration at the George Washington Carver Museum Saturday.
The celebration marks the anniversary of when African American slaves in Texas learned of the end of the Civil War and their emancipation.
The event featured a marching band, live music and carnival games.
Yacellys Cabrera who attended the event said seeing people come together to celebrate was the highlight of the event.
“There is a lot of music, a lot of celebration, a lot of positivity, people really just loving one another. and expressing the greatfulness that they have, by sharing the space,” Cabrera said.
