AUSTIN (KXAN) — Dozens of extremely smart Austinites gathered in one place Sunday in hopes of getting a shot at making it on “Jeopardy!”
It’s a lifelong dream for many. Auditions were held at The W hotel in downtown Austin Sunday morning and afternoon.
Getting to that point was not easy. They had to pass a difficult test online, and then there’s a random selection to decide who gets invited to show up in person.
They had to pass another test Sunday to make it to a room where they actually practice being on the game show. There’s a mock stage where they get to try their hand at one of the hardest skills to conquer — when to hit the buzzer.
“Most people at home realize that their eye scans of the clue are quicker than Alex can read and they see people frantically ringing in, but the timing is so important so you must wait for him to finish reading,” said Glenn Kagan, the senior contestant coordinator for “Jeopardy.”
Those who make it only get about two-weeks’ notice before they have to jump on a plane to fly to Los Angeles to appear on the show.
Jeopardy is in its 34th season.
