Austin Water plant renamed for first African-American city council member


AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Friday, Austin Water celebrated the renaming of its Water Treatment Number Four plant after Berl Handcox, Austin City Council’s first African-American member.

The city council unanimously voted for the name change for the plant, which opened in 2014. 

Handcox served from 1971 to 1975.
