AUSTIN (KXAN) — Monday night, the Austin Police Department responded to a collision in north Austin after two of its own officers were hit by a suspected drunk driver.

APD says the two officers were responding to a call and had a green light as they drove through the intersection of Payton Gin Road and Parkfield Drive. Police say the other driver, 43-year-old Jorge Lopez Noyola, turned left in front of them.

EMS received a call at 8:17 p.m. and reported to the scene. One of the officers and Noyola were taken to the hospital, while the other officer was checked out at the scene. Both the officer and Noyola were released from the hospital.

Noyola was arrested and faces a Driving While Intoxicated charge.
