Austin police officially has a new assistant chief

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department officially has a new assistant police chief officially starting Sunday.

Jennifer Stephenson is the fourth woman to ever be promoted to assistant chief within APD. She has a lot of experience, working in organized crime and internal affairs and she most recently served as a commander over downtown.

Chief Brian Manley says these qualifications made her perfect for the job.

Even though the promotion officially takes effect today, she got her chief stars pinned to her collar a couple of weeks ago and began her duties in her new role.
