AUSTIN (KXAN) — It may come as no surprise to anyone living in Austin, but the Texas capital has been named the best place to live in the U.S. for the third straight year in a row, according to a U.S. News and World Report.

The list of cities compiles the 125 most populated metropolitan areas and grades them on affordability, job prospects and quality of life. The grades are given on a 10-point scale and the city’s overall score is an average of all categories. Austin ranked number one for the third year in a row closely followed by Denver, Colorado.

After Austin, the next highest-ranked Texas city was Dallas-Fort Worth at 21, followed by Houston at 30 and San Antonio at 34.

The most important qualities of a good city considered in the list were determined through a public survey taken by thousands across the country. Data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the FBI and the Bureau of Labor Statistics was then referenced to find the final grade for each category.
