Austin man arrested, accused of punching and spitting on an officer

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly punching an officer trying to detain him in south Austin, according to Austin police.

The officer responded to a call of a trespasser at the Dollar General at 2101 West Ben White Boulevard around 4:50 p.m. where he made contact with the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Scott Daniel March.

According to police, when approached March became very verbally aggressive. During an attempt to detain and frisk him for weapons, police say March punched the officer in the left side of the face.

Police also say when March was placed in the patrol vehicle he spit on the officer’s face.

March has been arrested for assault on a peace officer, criminal trespass and harassment of a public servant.
