Austin (KXAN) — The Austin Independent School District is hosting a conversation Tuesday night to teach parents how to talk to their kids about mental health.
One in five teens experiences mental health issues, with depression and anxiety being the most common, according to the National Alliance on Mental Health. More than 40% of teens do not receive the right treatment, often because they’re too embarrassed to talk about mental health or don’t know how to ask for help.
The one-hour presentation with NAMI Austin will provide tools for parents and teens to proactively addressing mental health. The conversation is from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Crockett High School, 5601 Manchaca Road, Room 19.
