Austin Energy Cool Houses tour shows off energy-efficient houses

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Energy in partnership with Texas Solar Energy Society took people on a Cool House tour Sunday to show off energy-efficient homes in Austin.

From the slab to the roof, homes are becoming more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly in Austin.

Cool House tours let people walk through multiple homes in the city. The tour featured six homes, one multifamily community and one green neighborhood amenity center. While most people just think of solar panels and LED lighting, Scott Sproat who is the director of marketing at Capsa Ventures says these homes take it even further.

“Most people when they build, it’s called greenwashing. They will put in an energy efficient appliance they will put in a window, and say ‘Hey, look how great this building is,'” Sproat said, “but we were very purposeful when we built it, starting with the concrete podium.”

This is the 22nd year for the tour
